Cool 10m Mobile Radios - Connex
33TLM3
Connex has snuck up on the market with the Connex 33TLM3 What makes it so special? Well check out the pic! You need to look no further to figure out that this is something special. It plays your favorite MP3s! via the usb port. It even comes with a sd port. (we can upgrade the mp3 amp inside for even better performance!) It can display your favorite pictures! It has menus of several "digital rf meters", "swr meters", "modulation meters" and more! The incoming signal meter is digital, its pretty darn awesome!
Lets get to the meat and potatoes however...does it live up to the connex "quality". We say yes it does. Dual fet transistors, 6 bands of channels, echo/reverb and more makes it a winner. While the screen takes up so much space, the knobs are a little closer together. Not being judgemental but some of our customers aren't considered to be "dainty" with those big fingers its a bit tough to turn all the knobs but not a big issue. The dual fets after we SuperWackPack them do about 60-80 peak watts. We say this all the time however we DON'T build peak style radios, but we actually build them including this one for max talkpower (our reason for blowing away the competition). SuperRx works very well on this, nitro knobs would be cool, and more! What will be the future of radios like this? Well we don't know for sure. But in the mean time, we plan many cool mods for it. Maybe a jack for a rear view camera we've been thinking about this? Well the mods could be endless.
The only negative we see is repairs. While the main RF deck is easily fixed up us since we are a true technical shop. The computer type chips that control nearly all the cool functions could be a issue if they fail. Whats the future of this item? Well if its discontinued that main board could be a challenge down the road. However many connex radios stick around for a long time so this could be or not be a issue. We see no design flaws in it, and the type of parts used in the main board rarely fail. But at RadioActive Radios we pick out the good and bad.
Is the Connex 33TLM3 (horrible name) a winner...yes! We give credit to any company willing to work outside the box.
