Galaxy came out with a winner with this new 98VHP. Well sorta. We'll give the honest scoop, good and bad. The radio looks nearly identical to a Galaxy 95T, Galaxy 95T2 type radio. It boosts a Blue 5 Digit Freq Counter, (Why not a 6 digit?), however there is one neat improvement over the 95T2 a external echo/reverb board (YEA!) the Galaxy 95T, and Galaxy 95T2 don't have that.
Other features are 10kz, variable talkback, AM/USB/LSB, and more. Some more pros, well the amp is going to run fairly cool for this wattage range chassis after we do the SuperWackPack. The negatives, well we've said it before, we'll say it again, radios in this day and age are becoming more and more watts. A lot of vehicles are becoming less, and less metal = less and less ground. So you must install this radio very well. It's gotta run direct to the battery, with LOW SWR (under 1.3). If you like having everything in one, this radio maybe for you. There's already been reports on 300 watt Galaxy 98VHP radios out there... watch out! The radio will safely do 200 pep - 275 pep depending on the design you opt for. Not all audio is created equal however... same watts from different shops WILL SOUND DIFFERENT.
Pushing a radio to do max watts is hardly ever great for the radio. So if you think saving a few clams from the "low" price leader is going to be the way to go guess again, the same RadioActive Radio model is going to drive by you, and you're going to hear for yourself the difference! We never sacrifice the life of the radio, just to get the last watt out of a chassis. Give us a call, we'll be glad to help you to find out if this radio's best for you!
