Big 10m Base Stations - RCI 2980WX

The RCI 2980WX is a awesome big bad base station. What makes these radios so good? Well over the years they have greatly improved these chassis. Previous generations have been good, these new ones are better. The circuit boards are well built, and the power supplies have been upgraded greatly. While we've never personally had "issues" with power supplies since we've always improved the weak points these newer generations have made our job easier.

On to the features. These radios rock in the audio department. With our entry level redesign called the Performance Pack you'll notice a rather large difference in this radio compared to the "tune/peak" crowd. SuperWackPacked radios produce massive, clean, clear phat audio, simply put there is no better out there. If you are not a previous RadioActive customer its very hard to tell you just how much better the SuperWackPack makes these radios talk. We get in many bases from shops, even some well known shops that simply do their tune ups, give nice forward peak watts but horrible backwards rms or avg watts. At the time of writing this, we just rec'd in a radio from a well known shop in PA that swung forward peak, but had a 25 watt backwards rms swing. Meaning terrible audio, while looking good on a peak watt meter. At RadioActive Radios if your buying a Performance Pack, or SuperWackPack your radio will be done RIGHT.

Anyway, these SuperWackPacked bases are awesome. These radios are all mode, am, fm, usd/lsb. They have nice 6 digit freq counters. Easy to read dual meters (however strongly consider getting the bulbs replaced with LEDS!). Of course they have all the normal features like mic gain, rf gain, 10kz, roger beep and more. What's more...weather. Listen, previously we rec'd calls from ones who were disappointed in the weather reception. If you don't live right near a NOAA location you prob aren't going to hear weather all that well. Why? Your radios base antenna is far lower in frequency then the VHF weather broadcasts. But everything has to have a weak point! The 12 bands of channels make you forget about that in a hurry!

Echo/reverb, and variable talkback too! Again these are the real deal. If your driving a phat base amp, then these are awesome drivers as well, in fact some of the best non amplified radios out there.

Recommended mods....SuperWackPack, SuperRx, LED mod in meters, expand the stock clarifier or 10 turn. For more advanced users you may want to consider our custom built Splash Guard. Hardcore ssb users can get improved SSB performance with our SSB USER Mods. We offer more, less, and everything in between. The 2980WX is the right choice for many! Just a thought, one day its our prediction that RCI is going to no longer offer this as a "WX" radio! We'll see if that happens.
