SuperWackPacked Phase II Ranger 69FFB4s (and the RCI FFC4s if they bring them back) have dominated the airwaves and make other radios look pretty whimpy. If your talking on a non SuperWackPacked Ranger FFB4 your missing the point of owning a MONSTER RADIO. Nobody drives a high end sports car because they don't want performance and the wow factor. Nobody buys a FFB4 and doesn't want to put the smack down on the air. The tuned/peaked type RCI Ranger FFB4s just don't cut the mustard. You'll put a major hurting on them with our version! However this radio has ZERO bang for the buck. Expensive? Yes. Bang for the buck, NO. Its for people not concerning themselves with cost, but simply don't find paying for what they want.
This radio has a Monster heat sink on the bottom cover to keep the amp deck plenty cool. And with such little harmonic content that a SuperWackPack Phase II unit puts out that heat is transferred out the antenna, simply dominating the airwaves. Tuned/peaked, swing kit, mod kit type units are known for over heating and distorting. NOT THE CASE WITH THE REDESIGNED RF DECKS WE SPECIALIZE IN! We personally don't like the chrome face, black cover look the covers are far less likely to scratch. This is a SMD circuit board in which we specialize in. We get in A TON of SMD circuit board radios totally screwed up by golden screw drivers. The main reason being it takes special training and equipment to work on SMD boards correctly. We LOVE SMD boards and hope all radios will be turned into them.
We were speaking to a radio importer/owner on early 2012 and he was telling us that soon enough most thru hole circuit boards will go bye-bye and SMD will be the only ones out there... yea we can't wait.
But anyway, echo/reverb, talkback, 10kz, freq counter and more. The SMD really can use a syn alignment with a full SuperRx package for less noise for DXing however. Once done, you'll be talking on the King of the Air and hearing much better as well.
You MUST run this unit direct to the battery. We strongly suggest #4 power wire or bigger is fine. #6 can be used if your wire run is VERY short. AVOID discount shopping on a model like this. These amp decks are expensive if they blow up do to cheap technical work. If your buying SMD radios like this or the RCI 2970Ns, or chinese built Magnum/Stryker chassis (non SMD) buying from discount dealers its going to be likely a huge long term headache for you. Why? Because of the complex specialize nature of the 69FFB4 and the cloned thru hole boards of the chinese built radios, shops turn them into a pile of trash pretty quickly. Again these amp decks aren't cheap to rebuild. One bad tune up and its beat.Think we're scamming you?
